Staircase tiles: encaustic cement stair risers

On a staircase, encaustic cement tiles are laid mainly on the risers, the vertical part of each step, where there is no foot traffic. Here are staircases tiled in our clients' homes with Maison Bahya encaustic cement tiles. Under each photo, the name of the design.

Encaustic tiles for stair risers

The riser is the natural place for an encaustic tile on a staircase: you see it as you climb and it does not wear. For the tread itself, a material more resistant to wear and slipping, such as wood or stone, is usually chosen.

Which pattern for a staircase?

A staircase is seen step by step. Graphic, repeating designs such as stripes, chevrons or checkerboards create a rhythm going up and coming down. It is also one of the few places where a very bold pattern does not overwhelm the room.

There are two approaches: the same design on every step, or a progression of colours and patterns from one step to the next. Both are made to order.

A staircase that continues the hallway

A staircase often rises from the hallway. The same design, or the same colours, can run from the hallway floor up the risers.

Order samples to see the colours in your own light, or design your tile in the tile designer and ask for a quote.
